The Rosewood House

Stacy J-M Taylor and Christine Taylor

“This house has a secret…a very dark secret. I hope for your sake it stays buried in the past.”

And so goes the tale.

Greetings! This is Christine—or, mousewords. I’m the “words” in this sisterly collaboration. Stacy and I have teamed up to bring this book to the world. She collaborates on character development, plot, and editing, while I write. I have no problem filling a page with words.

The Beginning
Six years ago, our family survived chronic carbon monoxide poisoning. We began a journey of rehabilitation—which, for Stacy and me, included the writing of a story. This was our escape, a way to lose ourselves in something bigger than the challenges we faced. It was something to do when we were unable to do anything else. And for myself, it was a way to regain the writing ability I had lost.

The Journey

Six years is a long time. Through hard work and enjoyment, excitement and despair, the story grew from a novel pastime to a novel in good standing. Characters awoke and began dictating their own destinies. Places came to life and breathed a presence into the words.

And on more than one occasion, this novel has weirded me out.

But in a good way.

Welcome to The Rosewood House

Cousins Jeff and Cassie Barrister arrive at the historic Rosewood Inn for a family reunion, expecting a week filled with fun and relaxation.
But they soon discover that Rosewood is a place where friends are not what they seem; strangers are not to be trusted. And the voice of the mansion itself leads Jeff and Cassie to the discovery of a century-old murder…
…which may come back to haunt them.

We’ve filled this contemporary mystery with the type of fiction we love: likable characters, fun banter, intriguing settings, and pulse-pounding action. Carbon monoxide does play a role in the book, because it’s integral in our lives. Its effects are felt in everything we do…and have been the basis of a chilling ghost story.

This is our novel.

Welcome to our haunting.

I just read your teaser and it was wonderful. I just heard a story on NPR either yesterday or today about a family that was subjected to carbon monoxide poisoning for a long time before realizing it and they were seeing ghosts in their home. When I heard that story it made me wonder if the affect caused them to see ghosts or enhanced perception so that they could see ghosts.

  3. mousewords says:

I know exactly how they feel.

My family and I experienced “hauntings” first-hand. I saw and heard things that sent a chill down my spine. The fact is that CO causes hallucinations—but I can honestly say that I don’t know if that explains everything. The house we lived in was almost a hundred years old, and known for ghost sightings. So, what we decided was that *if* there were spirits in that house, they were probably trying to scare us away for our own safety. ;-)

  19. To create something so possitive as it relates to something so potentially tragic in the life of your family is indeed a marvelous thing. Creativity is a wonderful gift when crafted by the right person or in this instance persons, peace be with you and your family.
